FAQs

If you’ve come to this page you’re either looking to find out what a freelance copywriter actually does or how we can work together.

Whether you’ve worked with a freelance copywriter before or this is your first rodeo, I’ve put together some handy questions and answers to let you know what it’s like to work with me.

I’ve been writing copy for years, for different businesses, big and small, and I always love a new writing challenge. So if you’ve got a copy project you’d like me to work on, pop an email my way and I’ll take it from there.

What does a freelance copywriter do?

In a nutshell copywriting is writing words that sell, whether that be a brand, a product or a service. Nothing to do with copyright…so if you’re after some legal advice on patents, you’ve come to the wrong place!

As a freelance copywriter it’s my job to write words that make your business or brand stand out from the crowd. Words that engage with your target audience. Words that encourage them to act – whether it’s to sign up to your newsletter, buy your product or book that holiday!

I can write copy for your website, your emails, your blogs and your social media posts on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. It’s not just about online copy, I also write copy for offline marketing materials like product brochures, print advertorials, flyers and posters. If you’re after branding and tone of voice support, I can help with that too, writing slogans and straplines that get you noticed.

Get in touch christieforcopy@outlook.com and let me help you to sound the best you can.

Why do I need a freelance copywriter?

Maybe you’re a one-man band, you’ve started a business but now it’s taken off you don’t have time to do any marketing?  Perhaps you own a marketing agency and need an extra pair of hands on a copywriting project? That’s where I come in. As a freelance copywriter in Yorkshire, I’m here to write copy for you, saving you time to concentrate on other things.

What copywriting experience do you have?

I’ve been writing copy in-house in marketing departments for 20 years. So I’ve got plenty of experience as a copywriter for household brands including a low-cost airline and travel operator and a fashion retailer. Now as a Yorkshire freelance copywriter, variety is the spice of life, so I enjoy writing all sorts, whether you’re a big brand or a small start-up. Let’s chat today!

Why should you work with me?

As an experienced freelance copywriter working from my little office in Yorkshire, I can offer my copy expertise for competitive prices that suit all budgets. No big overheads here, just me and my laptop. I’m flexible, focused and friendly (did I mention I’m from Yorkshire?) which means I build a good relationship with my clients, and they can trust me to produce great quality copy every time.

My writing style and experience is varied, so I know how to adapt the tone of voice of the copy I write to suit any brand or business. I’ll listen to you, understand your copy needs and create copy that goes above and beyond your brief.

How much does a copywriter cost?

Freelance copywriter fees range massively but I like to think I’m somewhere in the middle. So as my client you’re getting 20 years of experience at good value for money. I have an affordable day rate for regular work, but I generally tend to quote a project rate for most copywriting jobs. No two copy projects are the same so what I charge depends on a number of factors like the topic, the brief and how much support is involved. This is why we have an initial chat to see what’s needed and to make sure we’re both happy.

For most projects I ask for 50% payment up front with the remainder due on completion of the job and any amends needed. My payment terms are 14 days from my invoice.

Do we need to meet in person?

No, we don’t, we can work together remotely. In fact, that’s what most of my clients want and that works well for me. I write copy from my office in lovely Yorkshire, where those green rolling hills get my creativity flowing. Of course I don’t just write copy for Yorkshire based companies. Thanks to good old technology we can chat on Teams, Skype, email each other, whatever works best for you.

Where do you work?

I’m based in my lovely Yorkshire office where I write most of my copy projects, but I can be part of your team if needed (and you’re local). I’ll just ask for travel costs and any relevant expenses. Location doesn’t need to be a problem if you’re not local as we can just work remotely. So if you’re in London or beyond, just get in touch with your copy needs and we’ll go from there.

I need copywriting support but I’m not sure where to start

You’re in safe hands, I’ve been writing copy for over 20 years across different sectors including retail, travel, fashion and not-for-profit. After a quick chat I’ll help you pinpoint what copy support you actually need and what might not be as important right now. As a freelance copywriter in Bradford, I’ve supported various different companies and clients all over the UK with their copywriting needs from writing their website copy to their blogs and beyond.

I need my copy quickly – can you work to short deadlines?

Yes, but this all depends on my diary. I’m used to working to tight deadlines as a freelance copywriter, so I’ll always try to help if I have availability. Give me a shout with your copywriting needs and if it’s not a busy time, I’ll fit your project in. Email Christieforcopy@outlook.com or fill out this contact form.

How does a copywriter and client work together?

It all starts with hello! When you get in touch with me for copywriting support, I’ll find out your needs first. If you don’t have a brief ready to go, don’t worry, I’ll email you one to fill out. We’ll have a quick chat, agree on the project cost and deadlines, then I’ll get writing for you! I’ll send you a draft to approve and I’ll keep you updated throughout my copywriting process too.

Why can’t I write my own copy?

You can! But it might not be the best idea. I can tile a bathroom, genuinely. I did it once and while I did an OK job, that bit of unequal grout bugs me every time I’m in the shower. Next time I’d get a professional in to do the job. Ask yourself if you’re happy to have ‘OK’ copy on your website or in your brochure? As a freelance copywriter I can craft effective copy in your brand tone of voice that speaks directly to your customer, engaging them to act.

What can a copywriter offer that Chat GPT can’t?

Where do I start? As a freelance copywriter my copy has the human touch and people sell to people right? I’ll talk to you, ask the right questions to find out about your business and your brand. That way, I understand what your copy needs to do for you. Once I’ve written your copy, if you need any amends, we can discuss them and I can make the changes. It’s an ongoing conversation. AI can do amazing things, but if you don’t know what to input, you won’t get a great output.

I’m after a content writer, is that different to a copywriter?

People have different answers to this but mine is not really. That’s because I offer both – I have experience copywriting (for a website landing page or a sales email) and experience content writing (like blogs and case studies). There is often crossover with both types of writing but in very basic terms, content writing aims to inform or educate the reader and copywriting aims to sell your offering to your target audience. Some people do specialise in one or the other but whichever one you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. I can help, just let me know what you need writing by email or contact me here.

Do you offer a discount for charities?

I do indeed. I’m passionate about helping not-for-profits get their marketing messages out there. Having worked for a charity in the past, I know how tight budgets can be too. So, I offer a 10% discount on my freelance copywriting services for charities and not for profits.

Are you an insured copywriter?

Yes, as a freelance copywriter based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, I’m insured with Policy Bee.
